Diablo Cody Producing Rom-Zom-Com 'Breathers: A Zombie's Lament'

According to Production Weekly’s Twitter feed, Diablo Cody is producing S. G. Browne’s upcoming novel “Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament,” and the script is being adapted by Geoff LaTulippe.

The film will evidently fall squarely into the beloved Rom-Zom-Com genre. Here’s the book synopsis:

Meet Andy Warner, a recently deceased everyman and newly minted zombie. Resented by his parents, abandoned by his friends, and reviled by a society that no longer considers him human, Andy is having a bit of trouble adjusting to his new existence. But all that changes when he goes to an Undead Anonymous meeting and finds kindred souls in Rita, an impossibly sexy recent suicide with a taste for the formaldehyde in cosmetic products, and Jerry, a twenty-one-year-old car-crash victim with an exposed brain and a penchant for Renaissance pornography.

Screenwriter LaTulippe’s latest, “Going the Distance” was recently celebrated in the 2008 Black List. It sounds ok, we suppose, but we hope to god Cody becomes more than just a geek filmmaker/screenwriter with a vagina and any kind of zombie film, subverting the genre or otherwise, could go away for a decade and we probably wouldn’t blink.
