Donald Glover Signs Massive Amazon Multi-Year Deal; Malia Obama Reportedly Hired To Help Write A Series

I’m not Donald Glover’s accountant or anything, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the actor-comedian-rapper-writer-[insert whatever else he’s working on today] is already a pretty wealthy man. But after his brand-new Amazon deal that is THR is reporting about, it seems like he’s, uh, doing pretty damn well financially.

According to THR, fresh off the announcement that he and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are going to co-star in a new “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” TV series for Amazon, it appears that Donald Glover has signed an exclusive new production deal with the tech company/streaming platform for a host of new projects (and potentially his own “content channel”) for the studio. And though we aren’t sure of the financial details, the deal is reportedly in the eight-figure range and includes multiple years under Amazon.

Now, your first question might be, “What does this mean for ‘Atlanta?’” Well, the good news is the deal is said to not have any effect on his Emmy-winning FX series that is currently in production on Seasons 3 and 4. Though it’s unclear if there are plans for Season 5 and beyond, THR is reporting that Glover will have the option to continue with that show, if he so chooses.

The second question is probably, “What is Glover going to work on with Amazon?” We already know about “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” so there’s that. But the report claims that one of the early projects that are in development, which Glover is aboard as a producer on, is a series titled “Hive” and focuses on a Beyonce-like pop star. And interestingly, the writing staff is supposedly coming together now and Malia Obama, daughter of former POTUS Barack Obama, is working as a writer.

Other than that, it’s unclear what other goodies Glover has up his sleeve. Considering he’s really done everything from sitcoms, stand-up, music, franchise features, and acclaimed Prestige TV, there’s no telling what we might see.
