'Black Adam': 'The Old Guard's' Marwan Kenzari Added To The DC Superhero Film's Cast

If you’re a superhero film fan that is saddened by the thought of never seeing “Gambit” hit theaters or that prospective Aunt May solo film that Sony was reportedly developing years back, then perhaps you should look at “Black Adam” for inspiration. You see, much like those films, when it was reported that Dwayne Johnson wanted to make a “Black Adam” film nearly a decade ago, people scoffed. No way, that’s going to ever happen. And for years, it seemed like it wasn’t. Release dates were shuffled. Directors came and went. But now, everything is finally coming together and Warner Bros. is continuing to add members to the cast, including a breakout star of “The Old Guard.” Perhaps, “Gambit” fans, all you need is a little faith? Well, and Dwayne Johnson wouldn’t hurt either.

According to THR, “Black Adam” continues to add actors to the cast with the announcement that Marwan Kenzari is the latest to join the superhero film. Kenzari is probably best known for his most recent role in Charlize Theron’s action film, “The Old Guard.” But he also has shown up in films such as “Aladdin” and “Murder on the Orient Express.” And if you want to put a little fear in the hearts of DC superhero film fans, you could mention that Kenzari was also a part of Tom Cruise’sThe Mummy” and the failed “Ben-Hur” remake. So, they’re not all winners.

For those not familiar with the comic books that serve as inspiration, “Black Adam” is the story of the title character, an ancient magical being that harnesses a similar power to that of Shazam (from the recent DC film of the same name). However, instead of being a teen boy that turns into a loveable goofball superhero, “Black Adam” tells the story of a powerful villain/anti-hero that doesn’t always use his vast powers for good.

Though the most recent date for the film is December 22, 2021, that doesn’t appear to be actually happening. We’re more likely to see “Black Adam” in 2022.
