On paper, Adam McKay’s upcoming Netflix film, “Don’t Look Up,” has a pretty simple premise. Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio star as two scientists, Kate Dibiasky and Dr. Randall Mindy, respectively, who attempt to warn the world about the apocalyptic nature of an upcoming comet heading towards Earth. But considering this is a new film from McKay, whose most recent features include “Vice” and “The Big Short,” we expect there’s a lot more to “Don’t Look Up” than the premise.
And even without watching the film, judging by the new first look from EW, “Don’t Look Up” surrounds DiCaprio and Lawrence with a star-studded cast. But it’s probably not all that difficult to attract big names when McKay’s previous films have been such acclaimed, award-winning features.

DiCaprio explained why he joined the film and said, “Adam has an unparalleled ability to spark conversation with humor and timely stories. I knew when I read his script that it was incredibly unique, as it struck an important chord concerning the modern world we live in. Adam has woven an incredibly timely message about society, how we communicate, our current priorities, and the climate crisis into an absurdly funny yet important movie.”
Joining DiCaprio and Lawrence in the film’s incredible cast are Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Tyler Perry, Rob Morgan, Mark Rylance, Ron Perlman, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi), Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey, Michael Chiklis, Tomer Sisley, and Chris Evans. But hold on, Marvel fans, just because you see Chris Evans in the cast doesn’t mean the Captain America actor has a huge role.
“Chris Evans has a little cameo in the movie,” admitted McKay. “He’s very funny. I won’t give away who he plays but he does pop up in the movie.”
We’ll see just how Adam McKay plans to satirize the current state of affairs when “Don’t Look Up” arrives in select theaters on December 10 before hitting Netflix two weeks later, on December 24. You can see all the new photos from the film below:
