From “Anchorman” to “The Big Short,” director Adam McKay loves to make incisive comedies that boast big ensemble casts. His latest, “Don’t Look Up,” looks to continue that trend, as the trailer for the new Netflix film shows off a stellar group of Hollywood’s best trying to fight off a disaster coming to earth
Jennifer Lawrence leads the cast as Kate Dibiasky, a middling astronomer who goes on a huge media tour to warn humanity of an impending comet whose collision with Earth foretells global disaster. On the road with her is Leonardo DiCaprio as Dr. Randall Mindy and Rob Morgan as Dr. Clayton Oglethorpe. McKay reportedly wrote the part specifically for Lawrence, although he had tweak the script a bit before DiCaprio signed on.

The film also stars Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, and Timothée Chalamet. Supporting players also include Chris Evans, Ariana Grande, Matthew Perry, Tyler Perry, Ron Perlman, Mark Rylance, Himesh Patel, Michael Chiklis, Gina Gershon, Scott Mescudi, and Melanie Lynskey.
McKay writes, directs, and produces the film through his production company, Hyperobject Industries. Netflix acquired “Don’t Look Up” from Paramount last February.

“Don’t Look Up” looks to be a tentpole release for Netflix on their fall schedule as the streaming service continues to debut at least one new feature film every week this year.
