Doors Doc, ‘When You’re Strange’ Hits Theaters April 9; Soundtrack Arrives March 30

When You’re Strange,” the Tom DiCillo-directed documentary about Jim Morrison and the Doors that premiered at Sundance 2009, finally has a release date. Narrated by Johnny Depp (after disastrous first screenings where it was narrated by DeCillo himself and put some to sleep), The picture is now scheduled to hit theater on April 9 in limited release. Here’s the official synopsis.

WHEN YOU’RE STRANGE uncovers historic and previously unseen footage of the illustrious rock quartet and provides new insight into the revolutionary impact of its music and legacy. Directed by award-winning writer/director Tom DiCillo and narrated by Johnny Depp, the film is a riveting account of the band’s history.

Said Depp, “Watching the hypnotic, hitherto unreleased footage of Jim, John, Ray and Robby, I felt like I experienced it all through their eyes. As a rock n’ roll documentary, or any kind of documentary for that matter, it simply doesn’t get any better than this. What an honor to have been involved. I am as proud of this as anything I have ever done.”

Rhino Entertainment is behind this one, so the film’s soundtrack will arrive March 30 via Rhino Records which will include 13-songs, both studio and live versions of classic Doors tracks. No tracklist is out yet. Here’s the trailer.
