As Marvel‘s Phase 4 introduces more new characters and sets up the MCU‘s future, there are also returns of some old familiar faces. And two of those faces, Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdoch/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilton Fisk/Kingpin, have already shown up in new Marvel content in the past year. Cox had a brief cameo in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” while Kingpin showed up as the big bad in “Hawkeye.”

And now, The Hollywood Reporter reports that both characters will appear in Marvel’s latest Disney+ show, “Echo.” Their casting is the latest move on Marvel’s part to re-integrate characters from their now-defunct Netflix shows that centered on Marvel superheroes. Cox and D’Onofrio squared off in “Daredevil” in seasons one and three before Netflix canceled the show in 2018. Now, they’ll cross paths again in “Echo.”
The new show centers around Alaqua Cox‘s character introduced in “Hawkeye,” Maya Lopez, as she returns to her hometown to return to her Native American roots and escape her time as a gang leader in New York. And after Lopez and Kingpin’s face-off in “Hawkeye,” there’s unfinished business between the two. But it’s Murdoch’s presence that’s even more intriguing. The blind lawyer, Daredevil’s alter-ego, is reportedly searching for a former ally in “Echo.” The Hollywood Reporter notes that the podcast The Weekly Planet reported that Krysten Ritter‘s Jessica Jones may be who Murdoch wants to find. Both characters were part of the 2017 team-up series “The Defenders,” along with Miker Colter‘s Luke Cage and Finn Jone‘s Iron Fist.
So, will Krysten Ritter be part of “Echo” as well? It’s all speculation at the moment. However, look at Cox and D’Onofrio’s presence in the show as an indicator that Marvel wants to weave its old Netflix material into more upcoming projects. And don’t forget that “Echo” is also a standalone show with its own story and characters. Zahn McClarnon is back to reprise his role as Maya’s beloved uncle, William Lopez. Other actors with Native American heritage like Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning, and Graham Greene also star in the series.
Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzi share directing duties on “Echo,” which is still in production. Marion Dayre, best known for her work as a story editor on “Better Call Saul,” writes the series.
So, with Daredevil and Kingpin back in the mix in “Echo,” who else from Marvel’s Netflix past could potentially show up on the show? Or in future Disney+ series? No one knows Kevin Feige‘s grand designs for future Marvel phases except for Feige himself, but fans will likely know more about it soon enough.
