It’s difficult to dampen our enthusiasm for anything directed by Danny Boyle. However, if these rumors are true, then we might actually be a bit apprehensive about the upcoming Boyle-directed musical/comedy.

Deadline is reporting that Ed Sheeran, the British singer whose music will attack your ears and force its way into your head for days on end, is in talks to make an “appearance” in the upcoming Danny Boyle film. The report doesn’t flesh out exactly the nature of the appearance, to let us know if its more than just a cameo, but any appearance by the red-headed crooner is a bit of a letdown.

Now, before you go thinking we have something against Sheeran personally, let us explain.

Sheeran has appeared in TV and films before, most notably in his cameo last year in an episode of “Game of Thrones.” The singer’s acting ability was suspect, as you might expect, but just his appearance in the show was enough to take viewers out of the episode. After his appearance, Twitter exploded with upset fans that just wish he never showed up, at all.

Granted, Danny Boyle’s upcoming film could only include a minor cameo, but there is the chance that Sheeran could have an extended role in the production. It is a musical and the guy is a hell of a singer. If that’s the case, then our excitement for this film is going to decrease a few levels, honestly.

Not much else is known about this film. We know that Boyle was very adamant on directing this film before he jumps into the world of James Bond and helms the upcoming ‘Bond 25.’ We also know that Richard Curtis, who is best known for “Bridget Jones’s Diary” and “Love Actually,” wrote the script for the untitled musical/comedy. And finally, we know that Lily James, Himesh Patel, and Kate McKinnon are all in talks to star. However, we have no idea of the plot, and what percentage of the film will include Sheeran.

There’s no release date for the untitled film, but production is expected to begin soon.
