Paul Dano's 'Wildlife' To Open This Year's Cannes Film Festival Critics' Week

While last week saw the official announcement of the upcoming lineup at the Cannes Film Festival, today we learn about some other films that will be showcased during the Critics’ Week competition.

The special selection of films, which are limited to directors who are making their directorial debut or working on their second movie, will kick off with Paul Dano’s first film “Wildlife.” Dano’s film is the lone American film in the series, which is dominated by European entries. “Wildlife” stars Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal and had its official premiere at this year’s Sundance.

Other films include Agnieszka Smoczynska’sFugue,” Benedikt Erlingsson’sWoman at War,” and Alex Lutz’sGuy,” which is scheduled to close out the series. The Critics’ Week section of the festival will present three separate awards this year, including the Grand Prix Nespresso (given to one of the features), the Leica Cine Discovery Prize (for shorts), and the Louis Roederer Foundation Prize for one of the actors or actresses.
