Got a Tip?

Edgar Wright’s 10 Favorite Films Of 2014 Include ‘Boyhood,’ ‘Interstellar’ & ‘Under The Skin’ And More

Edgar Wright's Favorite Films Of 2014While critics will have their say as the year in film winds down, sometimes the most interesting lists come from filmmakers themselves. Not only does it provide insight about their own personal tastes, it’s a nice window into the kind of work that piques the interest of directors and storytellers. It seems that in 2014, Edgar Wright was impressed with movies that played with form.

The moviemaker shared his list of favorite films of the year (in no particular order) with Esquire, and it’s telling stuff. From Richard Linklater‘s twelve-years-in-the-making "Boyhood" to Jonathan Glazer‘s near wordless "Under The Skin" to the live-die-repeat structure of "Edge Of Tomorrow" to the single-shot "Birdman," they all wowed Wright. Above all, they were distinctive.

"We need to make more original movies and audiences would do well to support original movies, for the future of the medium," he told the magazine. "I tire of franchises, remakes, and endless sequels. All of the movies I [mention below] work great as standalone stories. More please." No argument there.
