Elizabeth Debicki To Play A Spy In The Upcoming WWII Series 'Code Name Hélène'

Elizabeth Debicki is a rising star, with her biggest feature coming soon with Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet.” But the actress isn’t slowing down, as it’s being reported that Debicki will star in “Code Name Hélène,” an upcoming limited series from France’s Vendôme Group and Anonymous Content, the company behind “True Detective” and “The Revenant.” Debicki will also act as an executive producer for the series.

The series is based on the World War II spy thriller by New York Times bestselling author Ariel Lawhon. It will tell the true story of Nancy Grace Augusta Wake, an Australian journalist who became a spy for Britain and a leader of the French Resistance during WWII. Chronologically jumping between the battles of 1944 and her early struggles as a journalist, the series will chart Wake’s journey from writer to undercover freedom fighter.

Speaking to Variety about the upcoming series, Debicki explained “Nancy Wake was an astonishing New Zealand-born, Australian-bred woman of incredible courage, ingenuity, and wit. Her heroic actions during WWII are, in my opinion, too little known. As an Australian, I am delighted to come on board this production as both actress and executive producer to tell her utterly unique story.”

Debicki has experience with dramatic spy roles. Aside from Nolan’s “Tenet,” she has delivered strong performances in “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” and the award-winning BBC/AMC drama series “The Night Manager.” She is also familiar with the challenges behind portraying real-life historical figures, as she will play Princess Diana in the final seasons of “The Crown.”

“Code Name Hélène” is the second major series announced by Vendôme, one of Europe’s top independent production companies. Their upcoming projects also include a series with award-winning novelist and screenwriter William Boyd about the battle to save the Notre-Dame cathedral and an English remake of “La Famille Belier” starring Emilia Jones.
