‘Elsinore’: Andrew Scott & Olivia Colman Star In Director Simon Stone & StudioCanal’s Hamlet Stage Performance Drama

We’ve recently learned from StudioCanal that actors Andrew Scott (“Ripley,” “All of Us Strangers”) and Oscar-winner Olivia Colman (“The Roses,” “The Favourite”) are gearing up for lead roles in a new drama called “Elsinore” from director Simon Stone (“The Dig”) and screenwriter Stephen Beresford (“Pride,” “Tolkien”).

The new drama is being described by the studio as a “powerful, deeply moving and inspiring true story of the actor Ian Charleson who faced incredible odds while preparing to give the performance of his life in Hamlet at the National Theatre in London.”

Andrea Occhipinti of Lucky Red produces “Elisnore” with Gabrielle Tana of Magnolia Mae Films, along with Pete Shilaimon and Mickey Liddell of LD Entertainment, Stefano Massenzi, Carolyn Marks Blackwood, and Scott. Beresford is also an executive producer on the film, along with Ethan Silverman, who originated the drama.

When it comes to financing, StudioCanal and LD are behind that side of things after pre-buying North American rights. Ron Halpern, EVP Global Production, and Joe Naftalin, SVP Global Production, will oversee for StudioCanal (they’ll release the pic theatrically in territories such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Poland, Benelux, Australia, and New Zealand, with Italian distribution being handled by Lucky Red).

Scott most recently appeared in Rian Johnson‘s murder mystery “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” as a potential murder suspect in the latest whodunnit led by Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc. Other newish projects that Scott was involved with include Steven Zaillian‘s Emmy-winning serial killer series “Ripley” and Richard Linklater‘s “Blue Moon,” starring Ethan Hawke, Margaret Qualley, and Bobby Cannavale. Anthony Maras‘ WWII film “Pressure” and Chloe Domont‘s “A Place In Hell” (co-starring with Michelle Williams and Daisy Edgar-Jones) are some other feature film roles on deck for the Irish actor.

Meanwhile, Colman’s current theatrical roles include the marriage comedy “The Roses” opposite Benedict Cumberbatch, “Paddington In Peru,” “Jimpa,” and dark fishing village comedy “Wicker,” with small-screen appearances in “The Bear,” and she plays Mrs. Bennett in the upcoming Netflix series remake of Jane Austen‘s “Pride & Prejudice.”

There is an expectation that more big names from the British acting community will be announced for “Elsinore” at a later date. With cameras set to begin rolling on January 5, Stone will be reunited with veteran cinematographer Mike Eley, and likely won’t have to wait too much longer for that supporting lineup.
