Got a Tip?

Emily Blunt Says There’s “A Real Conversation” About An ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’ Sequel

It seems like at least once or twice a year, we have to talk about the possibility of a sequel to the sci-fi action film, “Edge of Tomorrow.” This discussion has been going on for a decade now, and sometimes there’s a lot to talk about and it seems like it’s going to happen, then things change and it feels dead in the water. Well, in 2024, we’re on the more optimistic side, it seems.

According to a new interview with Emily Blunt on the Happy. Sad. Confused. podcast, the actress was asked about her experience working on the film, “Edge of Tomorrow.” Then, she was asked about the status of the proposed sequel. As mentioned, it seems like this sequel is either definitely going to happen or never going to happen. And her response leads us to believe that maybe, just maybe, it’s going to happen… eventually.

“That’s a more real conversation,” explained Blunt. “When we first talked about a sequel, it was right before I was about to do ‘Mary Poppins.’ It was quite a while ago. I think if we’re going to do one, we’d have to reimagine what the sequel would look like.”

So, it would appear that a sequel would have to be completely rewritten, and they wouldn’t have the ability to use any previous scripts that were written after the first film was released. If you didn’t see the movie, “Edge of Tomorrow” is a sci-fi action film starring Blunt and Tom Cruise. The film followed an unlikely soldier thrown onto the front lines of a war against aliens. Unfortunately (or fortunately, I suppose), when he’s killed in battle, he wakes up in the past, forced to relive his final hours again.

Again, the film was a surprising success and a sequel seemed a certainty shortly after the film was released. But time kept passing, and with each year, it seemed less and less likely. That said, every so often, Cruise, Blunt, or filmmaker Doug Liman will hint at the sequel picking up steam. Now, it appears that it’s at least a “real conversation,” whatever that means.
