'English Teacher' Trailer: Brian Jordan Alvarez Created & Stars In FX's New Comedy Series

FX is probably best known, over the past several years, for being a network with a ton of great dramas. Recent hits include “Shogun,” “The Old Man,” and “Mayans M.C.” There just aren’t a ton of comedies (outside of “What We Do in the Shadows” and “Reservation Dogs“) on the network. But that changes now, with the addition of “English Teacher.”

As seen in the trailer, “English Teacher” is a workplace comedy about an, well, English teacher in a high school. He doesn’t get treated as he believes he should, neither from the students or the other faculty. But it’s clear the series also tackles the issues of today through the lens of teen youth. You know, things like using the “R word” or whether or not kids today care about being “woke.”

The series stars Brian Jordan Alvarez, Stephanie Koenig, Sean Patton, Enrico Colantoni, Carmen Christopher, Jordan Firstman, and Langston Kerman. In addition to starring in the series, Alvarez is the creator of the show.

“English Teacher” debuts on FX on September 2. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

FX’s English Teacher stars Brian Jordan Alvarez as “Evan Marquez,” a high school teacher in Austin, Texas who often finds himself at the intersection of the personal, professional and political aspects of working at a high school. Evan wants to be a principled person but often runs into trouble because of it.
