One of 2017’s most underrated films, without a doubt, is “Good Time” from the Safdie Brothers. With an incredible visual style, a career-best performance from Robert Pattinson, and one of the best scores of the year, “Good Time” fully established the Safdie Brothers as filmmakers to watch. However, once awards season came around, the film was unfortunately left out in the cold. And with their next film, it looks like the duo is putting together a pretty interesting cast.

“Uncut Gems” is the forthcoming film that the Safdie Brothers have written and will direct. We’ve already reported that unlikely actor Adam Sandler has signed on to star in the film that is said to be about diamond sales and is inspired by the Manhattan Diamond District. Joining Sandler in the cast, according to Deadline, is none other than Eric Bogosian. For those not familiar with Bogosian’s work, the actor is probably best known for his role on “Law & Order,” but has most recently shown up in the duo of “rich white people are evil” shows, HBO’s “Succession” and Showtime’s “Billions.”
Also of note, and something that will probably make skeptical cinephiles take note, is the fact that legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese, and his frequent collaborator Emma Tillinger Koskoff, are aboard “Uncut Gems” as executive producers. Even if it’s just a stamp of approval, knowing the Safdie Brothers have Scorsese on board with their latest film is a pretty great endorsement.
There’s no release date for the film just yet, but A24 is the distributor, as the company was for “Good Time.” And again, if you are a fan of recent indie films, A24 has been hitting it out of the park, with films like “Hereditary,” “Lady Bird,” and of course, “Moonlight.”
