'Ete 85' Teaser: François Ozon's Latest Film Uses The Cure's Music To Set The Tone

Since 2000, you’d be hard-pressed to find a filmmaker that has received as much acclaim internationally than French filmmaker François Ozon. With numerous films released over the past 20 years that have received awards recognition, festival accolades, and critical acclaim, Ozon has made a name for himself as a filmmaker that just doesn’t release bad works. And this year, he hopes to keep that trend going with the upcoming film, “Ete 85.”

And though there’s no official release date yet, it appears that the marketing for “Ete 85” has begun with a new teaser for the feature film. As seen in the new footage from the film, “Ete 85” tells the story of a young man in 1985 and the situations he finds himself in over the summer of that year. As is the case in many of Ozon’s work, it’s clear that sexuality will play a large part in this coming-of-age film, as will the time period. Though the dialogue of the film is in French, the teaser features no conversations, instead relying on the music of Robert Smith and The Cure to set the tone for Ozon’s project.

“Ete 85” is set to star Félix Lefebvre, Benjamin Voisin, Philippine Velge, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, and Melvil Poupaud. As is normally the case, the film is written and directed by Ozon. Last year, the filmmaker released his feature, “By the Grace of God,” which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and took home the Jury Grand Prix. However, the filmmaker is probably best known for his earlier films such as “Swimming Pool,” “8 Women,” “In The House,” and “Frantz.”

As mentioned, there’s no release date set for the feature, as cinemas are still largely shut down in France and around the world. However, “Ete 85” is likely going to be a film that finds its way into cinemas in Europe fairly soon. As for the rest of the world? There could be festival appearances in Ozon’s future. Though, trying to predict the release date for anything, let alone a French arthouse feature, is difficult, to say the least.
