Here’s an interesting trio of castings: Deadline reports that Miles Teller, Elizabeth Olsen, and Callum Turner are in talks to star in the rom-com “Eternity” over at A24. David Freyne will direct the pic from a script by Pat Cunnane. It’s a joint affair for Star Thrower Entertainment and A24, with Teller and Olsen also on board as executive producers.

There’s no official logline for “Eternity” yet, but reports indicate that the rom-com takes place in a world where everyone must decide who they want to spend the rest of their life with. So, basically “The Lobster,” with less interesting stakes, or maybe something less mordant and more lighthearted. A24 finances and produces the project, with Trevor White and Tim White co-producing through Star Thrower. The Whites co-produced “The Post” and “King Richard” together over the years, but that doesn’t guarantee that “Eternity” will have the same awards season pedigree. The film is way too early in development to make that assumption.
And Freyne’s filmography doesn’t help things either. The Irish director made his feature debut in 2017’s “The Cured,” starring Elliot Page. That film premiered at TIFF that year and went on to win Best Horror Feature at Fantastic Fest. But then Freyne followed up that victory with “Dating Amber” in 2020, a comedy based on the director’s adolescence and shot in his hometown. Not exactly sticking to genre, is it? But the film won over critics and had a successful run on Prime Video, so it’s clear Freyne knows what he’s doing in any genre he chooses.
That should leave A24 in high hopes for “Eternity,” which also features ex-Obama White House aide Cunnane as its writer. It’s Cunnane’s first major script, which makes this project even more of a wildcard. Cullane’s only other writing credit is on the TV series “Designated Survivor.”
But now let’s break down the film’s potential leads. Teller is still flying high on the success of “Top Gun: Maverick,” and he stars next opposite Anya Taylor-Joy in the Apple actioner “The Gorge.” Beyond that, he’ll also star in the upcoming MJ biopic “Michael” as the King Of Pop’s longtime lawyer John Branca. That film is shooting now.
Olsen starred in the Max limited series “Love & Death” last year, with the movie “His Three Daughters” up next. The actress also has Todd Solondz‘s next movie “Love Child” on the way, too, but that’s yet to begin to filming.
And that leavesMr. Dua Lipa (for now), Callum Turner. Turner recently starred in “Masters Of The Air” and George Clooney‘s “The Boys In The Boat.” He’ll reunite soon with “Green Room” co-star Alia Shawkat for Hailey Gates‘ debut feature “Atropia.”
As for Star Thrower, the young banner adds another buzzy project to its spate in “Eternity.” Other recent projects for them include Chloe Dumont‘s financial erotic thriller “Fair Play,” Brian Duffield‘s “No One Will Save You,” and the upcoming rom-com “The Threesome,” which just wrapped shooting. That film stars Zoey Deutch, Jonah Hauer-King, and Ruby Cruz and could potentially have its world premiere later this year.
As for “Eternity,” add it to the pile of other intriguing upcoming A24 releases, including “Wizards!,” “Eddington,” “Bird,” and more.
