The journey from the wintry hills of Park City to the red carpet and bright lights of the Dolby Theater is a long one. Few films can manage that mileage, but "The Sessions" looks like one that will go the distance. The based on a true story tale has been earning strong notices since its premiere in January — particularly for its performances — and with the awards season in full swing, Fox Searchlight is bringing the movie to theaters.

Today we’ve got the exclusive premiere of some new images from "The Sessions," the non-traditional but sweet sex comedy about a writer disabled by polio, played by John Hawkes, who seeks to explore his sexuality through the use of a sexual therapist/surrogate as portrayed by Helen Hunt, with William H. Macy as his priest and spiritual advisor. The film got great notices out of its Sundance debut, with our review saying the performances are “neither melodramatic nor too underplayed, not without humor and not without gravity,” and that the film “does look, with real intelligence and humanity, at the way sex can, and must, be part of a life lived independently, and is less a cause for shame than a way to explore who we are.” The film is also on our “10 Best Films to See in October List.”

To further whet your appetite, check out the exclusive images from the film below, featuring Hawkes, Hunt, and Macy, as well as supporting cast Annika Marks and Adam Arkin, as well as a behind the scenes shot of writer/director Ben Lewin on set. "The Sessions" opens on October 19th.nullnullnullnullnullnullnull
