‘Extraction 3’ Becoming ‘Thor’ Reunion As Idris Elba Closes Deal To Join Chris Hemsworth In Netflix’s Blood-Soaked Action Sequel

We’ve known for a while that Chris Hemsworth and director Sam Hargrave would be returning for “Extraction 3,” after the last two films nabbed excellent viewership on Netflix, as the streaming action flick from AGBO has enlisted one of Hemsworth’s co-stars from the “Thor” franchise.

After a minor supporting role in “Extraction 2,” British actor Idris Elba has closed a deal alongside Hemsworth’s franchise co-star Golshifteh Farahani (seen in the last two films) to return for the third installment, according to a report hailing from the folks over at Deadline.

Elba is obviously expected to get a much meatier role this time, as production is gearing up for a summer shoot and has a script from “Citadel” showrunner David Weil (also created the Nazi-hunting show “Hunters”). Previously, Hemsworth and Elba worked together on multiple MCU films with a trilogy of “Thor” movies. His heroic Asgardian character, Heimdall, was killed off in “Avengers: Infinity War” by Thanos, and then eventually showed up in Valhalla at the end of “Thor: Love & Thunder” (the afterlife realm and greeted a fallen Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman).

Sadly, there isn’t any sign of a plot synopsis for the third pic, but it is expected that Tyler Rake (played by Hemsworth) will be sent on another risky extraction mission that will lead to another string of high-octane action sequences (a calling card of these movies).

If you didn’t already know, “Extraction” was based on the graphic novel “Ciudad” by Ande Parks, from a story crafted by Parks, Joe Russo, and Anthony Russo (the Russo Brothers previously worked with Netflix on “The Gray Man” and “The Electric State” via their banner AGBO), with artwork from artist Fernando Leon Gonzalez.

As you might expect, the Russo Brothers are producing alongside Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Ari Costa at AGBO; Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson at Wild State, along with Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin, are also in the mix for the producing team on the streaming film.

We’ll be curious to see if the cast of “Extraction 3” will add more high-profile names with the looming production expected to begin in the coming months. This is certainly one of Netflix’s more successful original properties and one of their few star-led film projects to earn multiple sequels, and audiences are hungry for more.
