Unlike Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr, Chris Hemsworth isn’t putting his Marvel days behind him just yet. But before he suits up as Thor once again for Taika Waititi’s upcoming “Thor: Love & Thunder,” the actor is set to star in the new film, “Extraction,” which teams Hemsworth with some of his Marvel cohorts for an action thriller that has absolutely zero capes.
And thanks to USA Today, we have our first look at “Extraction” (formerly known as “Dhaka”), which is set to arrive on Netflix this spring. The film follows Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, a black market mercenary that is hired by an international crime lord to help rescue the man’s kidnapped son. After finding the son in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Rake begins his quest to return the boy to his family, while also gaining a bit of redemption of his own.
Hemsworth told USA Today that being a father helped his performance have “a rawness and authenticity that is hard to fake. Every sort of perspective you have on anything in life changes when you have a child – it’s no longer about you, it’s about them. The idea of that not being the case or the loss of a child, I can’t imagine anything worse.”
“Extraction” comes from producers The Russo Brothers, who directed Hemsworth in the massive blockbusters “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” The film is directed by Sam Hargrave, a former second-unit director for The Russo Brothers on those aforementioned Marvel films and stunt coordinator. “Extraction” marks Hargrave’s directorial debut.
No word on whether or not fans will get to see “Extraction” hit the big screen, as the film is a Netflix original that is set to make its streaming debut on April 24. You can see the first look photos below.
