We’re more than halfway through “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” meaning whatever big reveals the show has in store, they’re going to have to unveil rather soon — like what the hell the villains’ motivations are. Back in March, showrunner and writer Malcolm Spellman teased down next week’s episode 5 as the most exciting of the season. “Hands down, five, it just gets real,” Spellman said in an interview with ComicBook.com. “And five, you’re going to cry.”

Take that, sprinkle in the usual speculation for what new comicbook character will join the MCU next, and then add a surprise Florence Kasumba appearance as Ayo from “Black Panther,” and you have a recipe for fan speculation and theories to get out of control like the time Paul Bettany fooled everyone with a simple joke.

It doesn’t help that Spellman also talked to Rotten Tomatoes and teased that episode 5 would see a big cameo from a Marvel character. When asked about what character pairings he’d like to see happen in the MCU in the future, Spellman said there’s “a very, very grounded character” character in the series that he’d like to see partnered with one of the “world-shakers” like Thor or Captain America. “The personality is so strong, it’s the episode five character. I’d love to see that character with Thor.”

According to the folks at SlashFilm, the character is not one that we’ve seen in the MCU before, and one who is not scheduled to appear in an upcoming film, so it is definitely not Reed Richards. They did confirm with Marvel, however, that “it is an existing Marvel Comics character who is played by a well-known performer.”
