2023 Fall Film Preview: 60+ Most Anticipated Movies To Watch

“Thanksgiving” 
“Thanksgiving” is an adaptation of the fake trailer Eli Roth created for the film “Grindhouse” in 2007. The slasher film sees a serial killer come to a small Massachusetts town with the intention of creating a carving board of the citizens. The film stars Addison Rae, Patrick Dempsey, Milo Manheim, Rick Hoffman, Gina Gershon, and Nell Verlaque. 
Release Date: November 17 via Sony Pictures.

“The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes”
Based on the 2020 novel by Suzanne Collins, the fifth installment in “The Hunger Games” series is a prequel to what we have already seen rather than a continuation. This film is set six decades before the events of the first film and follows a young Coriolanus Snow and the events that lead to him becoming the tyrannical leader we know. The film stars Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, Jason Schwartzman, and Viola Davis and is directed by Francis Lawrence. 
Release Date: November 17 via Lionsgate Films.

May December
Todd Haynes‘ acclaimed drama, “May December” already made a big splash at Cannes earlier this year. Starring Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, Charles Melton, the film centers on a couple looking back on a torrid past. Twenty years after their notorious tabloid romance gripped the nation, a married couple with a large age gap (Moore and Melton) buckles under the pressure when an actress (Portman) arrives to do research for a film about their past.
Release Date: in select theaters November 17, premieres December 1 on Netflix.

Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain
Please Don’t Destroy, the “Saturday Night Live” digital shorts crew make their own comedy produced by Judd Apatow. The PDD trio Ben Marshall, John Higgins, Martin Herlihy star in a story about ree childhood friends turned deadbeat co-workers, who fend off hairless bears, desperate park rangers and a hypocritical cult leader in the hopes of finding a priceless treasure. Meg Stalter, X Mayo, Bowen Yang, and Conan O’Brien co-star.
Release Date: November 17 on Peacock.

“Next Goal Wins” 
Based on a true story, “Next Goal Wins” is centered around the infamously terrible American Samoa soccer team who lost a 2001 FIFA match 31-0. In 2014, with the World Cup Qualifiers approaching, the team hires coach Thomas Rongen to try to turn the team around. Taika Waititi directs this underdog story and stars Michael Fassbender, Oscar Kightley, David Fane, Beulah Koale, Lehi Falepapalangi, Semu Filipo, Uli Latukefu, Rachel House, Kaimana, Will Arnett, and Elisabeth Moss.
Release Date: November 17 via Searchlight Pictures.

“Napoleon”  
Directed by Ridley Scott and written by David Scarpa, “Napoleon” is an epic that brings audiences into the rise and fall of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Scott highlights the relentless journey to power through Napoleon’s volatile relationship with Josephine and his military and political tactics. Napoleon is played by Academy Award winner Joaquin Phoenix who stars alongside Vanessa Kirby, Ben Miles, and Catherine Walker. 
Release Date: November 22, via Sony Pictures, before streaming on Apple TV+ TBD December.

“Wish”
The newest film from Walt Disney Animated Studios, “Wish,” follows Asha, who makes a wish so powerful it is answered by a cosmic force. Together Asha and Star, the aforementioned cosmic force, have to team up to save Asha’s community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the universe, wondrous things can happen. The film is directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn and features the voices of Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, and Alan Tudyk.
Release Date: November 22 via Disney.

“Saltburn”
Struggling to find his place at Oxford, Oliver Quick is drawn into the world of Felix Catton and is invited to the Catton family estate for a summer he will never forget. “Saltburn” is a tale of privilege and desire from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Emerald Fennell and has a star-studded ensemble cast including Barry Keoghan, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Jacob Elordi, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe, and Carey Mulligan. 
Release Date: Limited release on November 24, before expanding on December 1 via MGM.

DECEMBER

The Bikeriders
Acclaimed filmmaker Jeff Nichols (“Mud,” “Midnight Special,” “Loving“) returns with his first film in seven years. Starring the all-star cast of Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, and Norman Reedus, his latest is a period drama set in the 1960s, following the rise of a fictional Midwestern motorcycle club, seen through the lives of its members.
Release Date: December 1 via 20th Century Studios.

Eileen
William Oldroyd, the filmmaker behind 2016’s “Lady Macbeth” (which turned Florence Pugh into an instant star), finally returns with a period psychological thriller film that’s already been raved about out of Sundance. Starring Thomasin McKenzie (“Jojo Rabbit“) and Anne Hathaway and set in the 1960s, the film centers on a glamorous corrections counselor (Hathaway) at a New England prison the potentially dangerous connection she makes with a younger woman working there (McKenzie). Shea Whigham, Owen Teague, Marlin Ireland and more co-star.
Release Date: December 1 via Neon.
