2023 Fall Film Preview: 60+ Most Anticipated Movies To Watch

“All of Us Strangers” 
The second film adaption based on the 1987 novel “Strangers” by Taichi Yamada, “All of Us Strangers” follows Adam, who encounters his neighbor and discovers that his long-dead parents are looking the same as they did 30 years ago. The film will star Andrew Scott, Claire Foy, Jamie Bell, and Paul Mescal. It was written and directed by Andrew Haigh. 
Release Date: December 22 via Searchlight Pictures.

“Rebel Moon” 
From Zack Snyder comes another science fantasy film. Focusing on a peaceful galaxy that finds itself threatened by tyrannical armies, the villagers have hope for their survival thanks to a mysterious stranger. The cast includes Cleopatra Coleman, Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, and Anthony Hopkins. 
Release Date: December 22 via Netflix.

“Occupied City” 
Steve McQueen intersects the past and the present in his new documentary “Occupied City.” The film is informed by the book “Atlas of an Occupied City (Amsterdam 1940-1945)” written by Bianca Stigter and tries to weave the portraits of a door-to-door Nazi occupation that still haunts the city with a journey through the last few years of the pandemic and protests. 
Release Date: December 25 via A24.

“The Color Purple” 
The movie-musical adapted from the stage play of the same name tells the story of the struggles of an African American woman living in the South in the early 1900s. “The Color Purple” stars Halle Bailey, Taraji P. Henson, H.E.R., Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, and Corey Hawkins. This newest adaption is produced by Oprah Winfrey, who starred as Sofia in the 1985 film. 
Release Date: December 25 via Warner Bros.

“Ferarri”
One of the few films allowed to participate in promotion during the SAG-AFTRA strike is Michael Mann’s “Ferrari.” The film focuses on the life story of Italian sports car entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari. The anticipated biopic stars Shailene Woodley, Patrick Dempsey, Penelope Cruze, Jack O’Connell, Sarah Gadon, and Adam Driver. 
Release Date: December 25 via Neon.

“The Boy and the Heron”
Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki makes one more “final film.” An animated fantasy (naturally), ‘Heron’ follows a teenage boy’s psychological development, as h enters a magical world with a talking grey heron after finding an abandoned tower in his new town. You’ll hear about it soon during the fall film festival circuit in the fall including TIFF.

Other titles probably coming this fall: “Aggro Dr1ft,” “The Curse,” “The Archies,” “Hit Man,” “Origin,” “Evil Does Not Exist,” “Finestkind,” and “The Sweet East” to name just a few. Make sure to pay attention to our fall film festival previews, TIFF, Telluride and Venice, NYFF, many of those titles could appear this year at some point too.
