With all the talk surrounding Venice, Toronto, Telluride, and the rest, it’s sometimes easy to leave Fantastic Fest out of the discussion. But with films like “Parasite,” “Knives Out,” and “Color Out of Space” added to the lineup for the 2019 iteration, it would appear that Fantastic Fest is still one of the premier genre film fests of the year, but also one of the events where you can find some of the most-anticipated films of 2019.
As part of the Second Wave lineup announcement, Bong Joon-ho’s highly-anticipated “Parasite” has been added to Fantastic Fest’s schedule. And Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” has been selected as the Closing Night film.
However, there are plenty of other premieres coming to Austin, Texas this year, including the US premiere of Richard Stanley’s upcoming horror film “Color Out of Space,” which is an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s story and stars none other than Nicolas Cage. One of the standouts from this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, “Patrick,” starring Jemaine Clement, will be making its North American debut. And don’t forget about the US premiere of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead’s new film “Synchronic,” starring Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan.
This year’s Fantastic Fest will begin on September 19.
