We have some good news for fans of “The Wonder Years.” After years of waiting, the entire series will finally be available on DVD later this year. Thanks to StarVista Entertainment, we will all get to relive the adventures of Kevin Arnold as he grows up during the late ‘60s/early ‘70s. Even better news? Virtually every song that originally appeared in the show will be included as well.
Getting the entire show on DVD, with the soundtrack mostly intact, was not an easy task as securing the rights has been the biggest and most expensive obstacle. The show featured some of the greatest music from the ‘60s and ‘70s, which include The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Smokey Robinson, Joni Mitchell, and of course Joe Cocker, whose rendition of “WIth a Little Help from My Friends” opened every episode.
For the longest time, it seemed we would never get to see the entire series on DVD, since the cost of clearing everything would presumably be so prohibitive. While almost every other TV show in recent history has become available via home video in the past decade, “The Wonder Years” has continually been left behind. Hopefully, the wait will have been worth it.
So get ready to relive all of Kevin Arnold’s coming-of-age adventures in a network show that managed the feat of being family viewing that was smart, heartfelt and funny, while covering topics like sex and the Vietnam War. And the cavalcade of stars that passed through the doors of the show in guest spots—Alicia Silverstone, David Schwimmer, Giovanni Ribisi, Juliette Lewis, Seth Green, Carla Gugino and more—is pretty impressive.
