Got a Tip?

First Images Of Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara In Todd Haynes’ ‘Carol’

Carol

With filming on Todd Haynes‘ “Carol” having wrapped at the end of April, the big question is when we’ll get to see the film. Will the director manage to have it all finished in time for the fall festival circuit, or will it be held for next year so the filmmaker can take as much time as needed to craft something special? Either way, we can’t wait for the movie, Haynes’ first since 2007’s “I’m Not There” (though one can’t forget his excellent 2011 HBO miniseries “Mildred Pierce“).

Anyway, the first batch of images from the movie have landed, highlighting leads Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, while the ensemble around them is pretty solid too with Kyle Chandler, Sarah Paulson, John Magaro and Carrie Brownstein among the players. “It’s based on an extraordinary book, ‘The Price Of Salt,’ which was banned when first published because the story of a married woman in the Fifties who falls in love with a young girl was seen as shocking,” Film4 executive Tessa Ross told London Evening Standard. Here’s the official synopsis:

CAROL follows the relationship between two very different women in 1950s New York. A young woman in her 20s, Therese (Mara) is working in a department store and dreaming of a more fulfilling life when she meets Carol (Blanchett), an alluring woman trapped in a loveless, moneyed marriage. As the story unfolds—their lives begin to unravel with Carol becoming more fearful of losing custody of her daughter in the case of separation when her husband (Chandler) threatens her competence as a mother because of her previous affair with her best friend Abby (Paulson), and new relationship with Therese.

It sounds like it could be a firecracker of a drama, and we can’t wait to see it all come together. Pics below. [Live For Films]
