Got a Tip?

First Look At HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ Introduces Fans To A New Character Wearing A Familiar Color

We’re still probably close to a year away from HBO premiering the upcoming “Watchmen” TV series. But yet, thanks to a new Instagram account for the series, we get our first look at…something.

For a while now, it’s been known that series creator Damon Lindelof planned on “remixingAlan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ classic comic book series, but we didn’t know exactly what that meant. The series, which is supposedly set in the aftermath of the comic book story, is said to be a modern take with new characters and familiar faces. Well, in the first look at the new live-action series, fans will get a glimpse at what looks to be one of those new characters.

With the classic line “Who watches the Watchmen?” accompanying the picture, we see a police officer, of sorts, with a bright yellow face mask hiding the person’s identity. As this is the first image from the series, one would assume this character plays a major role in “Watchmen,” but what that role might be is still very much a question. That being said, the character could be relatively minor, but since the mask is bright yellow, it shows fans a connection to the famous comic book storyline.

Also of note on the Instagram page is the profile picture. The original “Watchmen” is iconic for its use of the smiley face button with blood spatter on it. The button was worn by the infamous Comedian and the blood is a result of a fight between the anti-hero and his eventual killer. But this new image isn’t a smiley at all, but yet a black circle with a yellow background and the signature spatter. Could this single circle be a reference to Doctor Manhattan, who sports a similar simple circle hydrogen atom symbol? Either way, it’s a safe assumption that whoever the circle is in reference to, the blood would indicate that bad times are ahead.
