‘Fantastic Four’ Trailer: Marvel’s First Family Finally Makes Their MCU Debut On July 25

This summer we’ll see Marvel Studios attempt their first major crack at Marvel’s first family with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” set to hit the big screen on July 25. The retro-futuristic reboot takes place in an alternative universe version of New York City (as another cog in The Multiverse Saga) and the new movie has “WandaVision” director Matt Shakman overseeing the latest incarnation of the beloved superhero team.

A first-look trailer has finally been released officially (see below) this morning and should help excite old and new fans of “The Fantastic Four” as the MCU reboot is expected to collide with the events of “Avengers: Doomsday” and potentially “Avengers: Secret Wars.”

Marvel and Shakman have assembled an impressive cast for the reboot with Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us“) as Doctor Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby (“Hobbs & Shaw”) as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn (“Gladiator II”) as Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“Andor,” “The Bear”) as Ben Grimm, Ralph Ineson (“Nosferatu“) as the mighty Galactus, and Julia Garner (“Ozarks”) as the Shalla-Bal version of Silver Surfer (a possible nod to the Earth-X take on Galacus’ herald). Rounding out the call sheet in the MCU summer event pic includes John Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles.

Check out the film’s official synopsis from Marvel below:

“Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”

“First Steps” is the start of Marvel Studios’ reworking of Fox-era characters the studio inherited after the 21st Century Fox merger with Disney, before their herculean task of rebooting the popular “X-Men” franchise (after “Deadpool & Wolverine” we are still unsure exactly how they plan on tackling that one). Using the Multiverse as an entry point for The Fantastic Four should feel a bit organic given the mixing of sci-fi and cosmic elements (The Negative Zone, like The Dark Dimension from “Doctor Strange,” is home to all sorts of dangers and legacy villains) throughout the property allowing for a plausible universe-hoping angle.

As previously mentioned, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” has a prime summer release date of July 25 and should be positioned properly to do extremely well at the box office.
