I’m sure many weren’t expecting too much when it was announced that Blumhouse and Universal Pictures would be teaming up for a live-action feature version of “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” an adaptation of the popular creepy horror video games created by Scott Cawthon, that has spawned a whole sub-genre of low-budget horror films with killer kiddie mascots (inspiring things like Nicolas Cage‘s “Willy’s Wonderland” from 2021) and “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” was greenlit after the first installment made a solid $291.4 million ($80 million opening weekend, domestically, which was certainly impressive) at the box office, establishing there is a decent audience for these oddball horror films.
The second installment is coming out next month, and Universal has shared the latest trailer, giving fans an idea of where this new chapter is heading. Josh Hutcherson, Piper Rubio, Elizabeth Lail, Freddy Carter, Theodus Crane, Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, Skeet Ulrich, and Matthew Lillard lead the sequel’s cast.

An official synopsis for the sequel from Universal:
One year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town’s first-ever Fazfest. Former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), concerning the fate of her animatronic friends. But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.
Emma Tammi returns to direct “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” with a script penned by Cawthon (you don’t often see video game creators this involved with film adaptations); it also boasts Jason Blum and Cawthon as producers alongside a supporting team that consists of Tammi, Beatriz Sequeira, Christopher Warner, Russell Binder, and Marc Mostman as executive producers.
You can watch that trailer for “Five Nights At Freddy’s 2” below, as the new horror flick is heading to theaters on December 5.
