Uhh, so this is a little bit unexpected, but in Hollywood you can fail upwards. The DC Films’ picture “The Flash” has played a lot of musical chairs. First Phil Lord and Chris Miller who bailed to make “Han Solo” (only to get fired) then “Dope” director Rick Famuyiwa dropped out too over “creative differences” and so too did Seth Grahame-Smith (“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” and “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter”), who also rewrote the script. Comedy is the through line there obviously, they want a comedic flash as evinced by the “Justice League” movie, so the DCEU has finally found new directors in… John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the screenwriters behind “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (though several other authors were brought on board afterwards to be fair—there’s six people credited to that screenplay).
Honestly, I won’t mince words. These two have written and directed a lot of awful dreck including “The Vacation” remake, one of the worst films of 2015 (which was their directorial debut) and “Game Night.” Writing wise they’ve penned much junk too, including the two aforementioned films plus “Horrible Bosses” and its even-worse sequel, “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” and “Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2.” None of these movies are good, but I’ve stopped trying to figure out what DCEU’s strategy is these days other than hoping their movies don’t suck.
Fun fact, WB actually went to Affleck to helm but he would eventually pass on the job

The real comedy here is apparently Ben Affleck was offered to direct the film first, but he obviously passed, because, well, let’s face it: he doesn’t really want to be Batman. THR says the Warner Bros.’s movie will still be a “Flash: Flashpoint” movie which involves alternate universes, time warping and whatnot and could be extremely ambitious which is why you definitely want a bunch of untested comedy guys to make it. Ezra Miller will reprise the role of The Flash, aka Barry Allen.
