Got a Tip?

Fox Made Cameron Diaz Re-Record Her ‘The Counselor’ Dialogue Because It Was Too Rihanna-Esque

The Counselor Cameron Diaz

It seems Ridley Scott‘s flop “The Counselor” is a movie that keeps on giving. After supplying no shortage of things to talk about, including The 5 Most WTF Moments and The 5 Best Deleted Scenes, The 10 Best Quotes & More, it seems there’s even more trivia to digest surrounding one of the most divisive characters of the movie: Cameron Diaz‘s sultry, windshield-fucking, femme fatale Malkina.

According to THR, and confirming what he had heard around the rumor mill, Diaz had originally delivered the wordy, dialogue of her character “with a full-on Rihanna-style accent” (lol). Going Barbadian for a character that’s Argentinian in the script is an odd choice. And no surprise, executives apparently didn’t think it was so hot (and we heard it tested rather badly), and the actress was reluctantly forced to go back and re-record her lines. But no matter the accent, the takeaway from Diaz’s performance in “The Counselor” will forever be her grinding on a windshield with Javier Bardem looking on in hilarious horror.

Will we ever get to hear Diaz’s original take on the character? Probably not, but hey, maybe a couple decades from now we’ll get a “Blade Runner“-esque box set with “The Rihanna Dialogue Cut.” After all, with the movie only earning a paltry $17 million worldwide, Fox is going to want to make some of the money back.
