Fox Searchlight Creates Scoreless Print Of Terrence Malick’s ‘Tree Of Life’ For Special Screening With Live Orchestra

While we’ve wondered about the diminishing returns of Terrence Malick‘s recent work, there is no question 2011’s “The Tree Of Life” is a powerful piece of cinema. A universe-spanning tale about fathers and sons, love, grief, faith and more, Malick’s poetic marriage of visuals and philosophical musings is potent, and is aided by solid performances from Jessica Chastain, Brad Pitt and Tye Sheridan that manage to comfortably slide into ambitious scope of the picture. But one of the other big highlights of the film is the music, and it will be taking center stage in a new screening.

Fox Searchlight Pictures has created a scoreless print of “The Tree Of Life” that will be presented National Concert Hall in Dublin in a World Premiere screening presented by Wordless Music, accompanied by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and choir. They will be playing through pieces by Bach, Couperin, Mozart, Berlioz, Brahms, Smetana, Mussorgsky, Mahler, Holst, Górecki, Tavener, Giya Kancheli, Barry Guy, and Zbigniew Preisner alongside the film in what should be a pretty tremendous experience.

Tickets are now on sale for the event on June 3rd, and if you haven’t made vacation plans already, we hear Dublin is pretty lovely in the summer. To get an idea of what you’ll be hearing, check out our list of all the songs featured in “The Tree Of Life” or listen to the playlist below.
