If the word on the Croisette is true, then Josh O’Connor‘s breakout next couple of years just got even more interesting.
Deadline reports that the British actor will star in Joel Coen‘s next film, titled “Jack Of Spades.” Plot details about the project remain under wraps, but Coen plans to shoot the movie this summer in Scotland. And apparently, Coen has made offers to two British actresses to join O’Connor on the film, but Deadline couldn’t confirm either of their names. “Jack Of Spades” will be Joel’s first film since 2021’s “The Tragedy Of Macbeth.”
O’Connor working with one of the Coen Brothers? That’s great news for any film fan, and it continues O’Connor’s surge as one of the most sought-after actors for big-name American directors. He just worked with Kelly Reichardt on “The Mastermind,” which premieres at the Cannes Film Festival today, and has Rian Johnson‘s “Wake Up Dead Man” and Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming UFO pic on the way. Other recent work for O’Connor includes “The History Of Sound,” which also bowed at Cannes this year, and “Rebuilding,” which had its world premiere at Sundance.
O’Connor hinted about “Jack Of Spades” during an interview with Deadline at Cannes today, but didn’t divulge enough to confirm it was Joel Coen as director; a reliable source did so later on. As for the actresses who may star alongside O’Connor in the film, their names remain a mystery, too. But it’s good news to hear that Joel will be back in the director’s chair again, working with an ascendant actor in the industry.
