‘Funny Face’ Exclusive Clip: Filmmaker Tim Sutton Returns With A Tale Of Vengeance & Friendship

If you’re a regular reader of this site, you know that we’re huge fans of Tim Sutton. And last year, the filmmaker wowed us with his latest film, “Donnybrook.” Personally, the film made my own top 10, but we all agreed that “Donnybrook” should be included in our Best of 2019 festivities. And now, Sutton is back with his next feature, “Funny Face.”

And in honor of “Funny Face” arriving in Berlin for its world premiere later this week, we’re absolutely thrilled to offer our readers an exclusive clip to give you an idea of what Sutton has been working on since “Donnybrook.”

“Funny Face” tells the story of a young guy named Saul that finds himself with a growing desire for vengeance after a real estate developer decides to destroy his grandparents’ home, in favor of turning it into a parking lot. This brewing hatred leads Saul to create a persona, who wears a Funny Face mask, to enact his revenge. But along the way, the distraught man finds his mission compromised by a woman named Zama, who makes him question his vengeance.

The exclusive clip we are debuting shows a lighthearted moment between Zama and Saul as they go shoe shopping. The Funny Face mask is still there, hinting as his need for revenge, but it’s clear that Saul has sparked a real friendship with Zama, as they show off their new kicks.

The film stars Cosmo Jarvis, Dela Meskienyar, Jonny Lee Miller, and Victor Garber. As mentioned, “Funny Face” is written and directed by Tim Sutton. And while many who read this site will immediately think of last year’s “Donnybrook,” Sutton is also known for his previous films “Dark Night,” “Memphis,” and “Pavilion.”

“Funny Face” will have its world premiere as part of the 2020 Berlin Film Festival on February 23. You can watch the exclusive clip below.

Here’s the synopsis for the film:

When a power-hungry real estate developer decides to destroy Saul’s (Cosmo Jarvis) grandparents’ home to make way for a parking lot, Saul is left desperate and angry, impotent in a world beyond his control. Young, reckless, and alone, he takes on the persona of the Funny Face mask to take revenge. But then he meets the rebellious Zama (Dela Meskienyar), and as their friendship blossoms on the streets of Brooklyn, he must make a tough choice: follow through on his thirst for vengeance or maintain his innocence in a world of harsh realities.
