Now middle-aged and leading different lives, a couple from opposite sides of the tracks rekindle their young romance, when a funeral in their hometown brings them together. If this all sounds vaguely familiar, that's because it's yet another Nicholas Sparks adaptation, a man who has turned formulaic and manipulative romances into a cottage industry of crap.
Warner Bros. is behind this latest venture, picking up the rights when Sparks pitched it to them before he even wrote the book (because why bother writing it, if it's not going to be spawned into a movie, right?). This time around Michael Hoffman, the thoroughly adequate helmer behind fare such as "The Last Station," "One Fine Day," The Emperor's Club" and the upcoming "Gambit" is helming the picture. Will Fetters, who has experience dealing with Sparks' pablum, having penned this year's "The Lucky One," is being courted to rewrite the first draft by J. Mills Goodloe ("Pride").
