Gemma Arterton Finds The Cure For Zombies In New Trailer For ‘The Girl With All The Gifts’

The nature of our work means we get to see things early, and then encourage you to see those films when they hit cinemas. Often, this means championing movies that might otherwise get forgotten about, and that’s the case with “The Girl With All The Gifts,” which recently landed on our The 20 Best Movies Of 2017 That We’ve Already Seen feature.

It might seem like yet another zombie movie on the surface, but all indications from those of us at The Playlist who’ve seen it is that the film — starring Gemma Arterton, Paddy Considine, and Glenn Close — is an inventive and effective take on the genre. And for those “Walking Dead” fans who might be wearying of the series, this might be a welcome antidote. Here’s the official synopsis:

The near future: humanity has been all but destroyed by a fungal disease that eradicates free will and turns its victims into flesh eating “hungries.” Only a small group of children seem immune to its effects. At an army base in rural England, this group of unique children are being studied and subjected to cruel experiments. But one little girl, Melanie, stands out from the rest.

When the base falls, Melanie escapes along with Miss Justineau (Gemma Arterton), Sergeant Parks (Paddy Considine), Dr. Caldwell (Glenn Close) and two other soldiers. Against the backdrop of a blighted Britain, Melanie must discover what she is and ultimately decide both her own future and that of the human race.

“The Girl With All The Gifts” hits DirecTV on January 26th and hits VOD and cinemas on February 24th.
