Ryan Murphy—the man behind "Glee" and "American Horror Story"—has already accomplished a lot in his career. His TV shows have brought in boatloads of acclaim and awards, and his HBO film "The Normal Heart" earned no shortage of plaudits this year. But not one to rest on his laurels, the writer/producer/director is doing something no one has thought of before: mixing horror and comedy.
This bit of news come in the midst of a press release of Murphy’s forthcoming show "Scream Queens," his anthology horror series for Fox. Viewers who tune in might be totally baffled by what they’re seeing because for the first time ever, Murphy is blending scares and laughter. Here’s an excerpt of what you need to know (via io9):
"I knew I wanted to work with Brad and Ian again on something comedic, and we are having a blast writing SCREAM QUEENS," commented [Ryan] Murphy. "We hope to create a whole new genre – comedy-horror – and the idea is for every season to revolve around two female leads. We’ve already begun a nationwide search for those women, as well as 10 other supporting roles, and we’re very grateful to Dana and Gary for their enthusiastic support."
Guys, this is going to be some truly revolutionary, groundbreaking stuff. While doctors have yet to weigh in on the safety of laughing and being scared at the same time, we’re pretty sure it won’t do any lasting physical or psychological harm. But can this ambitious, daring concoction truly work? Only time will tell.
