You may remember that back in May 2023, it was announced that May Calamawy was added to the cast of Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II.” Not only that, but it was reported that her role would put her as one of the leads in the film. Well, things changed, apparently, as folks who have seen the film can attest.
According to a social media post from the recent London Comic-Con, May Calamawy talked about the fact that her role was completely cut from the theatrical release of “Gladiator II.” While that isn’t what she was hoping would happen, she apparently called it one of the best experiences of her life. She also really enjoyed working with Denzel Washington. I mean, who wouldn’t, right?
Calamawy might be best known for her role in Marvel Studios’ “Moon Knight” TV series, where she was introduced as the Scarlet Scarab. She is also known for her role in the acclaimed Hulu comedy series, “Ramy.” She also has a role in the upcoming film, “The Actor.”
Hope is not yet lost for fans of Calamawy and “Gladiator II.” In an interview with THR recently, director Ridley Scott said his original cut of the film was nearly four hours long, and that it might actually get released at some point. You have to assume that Calamawy’s role was included in that cut of the film.
Regardless, “Gladiator II” seems to be doing pretty well with critics and at the box office so far. You can watch the film in theaters now.
