'Gladiator II': Ridley Scott Says The Film Opens With "The Biggest Action Sequence" He's Ever Done

Filmmaker Ridley Scott has never shied away from filming a massive action sequence. He’s done plenty of action-heavy epics in his time. However, according to the filmmaker, all of it pales in comparison to what people will see in the opening scene of “Gladiator II.”

Speaking to Empire, Ridley Scott talked about his upcoming film, “Gladiator II.” Apparently, the highly-anticipated sequel is going to begin with what the filmmaker is calling his biggest action sequence yet. And that’s saying something.

“We begin the film with probably the biggest action sequence I’ve ever done,” Scott teased. “Probably bigger than anything in ‘Napoleon.’”

Obviously, Scott isn’t going to spill specifics about the scene in question. However, since it’s the first one of the film, you have to assume Scott is coming out guns (or swords) blazing with the sequel. For those who haven’t been following along, “Gladiator II” follows the story of Lucius, who was a child in the original film. Now grown up, Lucius has to fight in the arena in hopes of overthrowing the Emperors. It seems like it might be a similar story to “Gladiator,” but who knows?

“Gladiator II” stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, and Denzel Washington. The film is written by David Scarpa, and as we know, it’s directed by Ridley Scott.

“Gladiator II” is expected to arrive just in time for Thanksgiving on November 22.
