‘Good Omens’ Trailer: Michael Sheen And David Tennant Are An Angel And Demon In A Funny Apocalypse

Apocalypse focused stories such as “Armageddon,” “The Walking Dead,” and “Mad Max” gives us fascinating yet terrifying windows into the abyss of the “what if” and/or “what could be.” They tend to be grim narratives that involve grief, loss, and trauma. Not to mention, asteroids, zombies, and cult leaders.

Amazon’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novel, “Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch,” “Good Omens” assures that the end of the world doesn’t necessarily have to be terrifying or serious, but rather, comedic. When an angel and demon join forces to try and stop the coming of the apocalypse, what could possibly go wrong? “Good Omens” promises to bring a humorous twist to this question.

Unveiled this weekend at New York Comic-Con,  Gaiman, Michael Sheen (“Masters of Sex,” “The Queen”) and David Tennant (“Doctor Who,” “Jessica Jones”) were all in attendance to discuss the series. Sheen stars as the angel and Tennant as the demon. Together, as longtime friends (with an unusual relationship of course), they band together to combat the impending end of the world, or what they call, End Times. The series is directed by Douglas Mackinnon (“The Abominable Bride”) and written by Gaiman who has also served as the showrunner.

And better yet, additionally set to star alongside Sheen and Tennant is Jon Hamm (“Mad Men,” “Baby Driver”) as the archangel Gabriel and Frances McDormand (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” “Fargo”) as the voice of God. This cast is a pretty stellar line-up for an apocalyptic comedy that should be divine to watch. Hamm and McDormand are wildly eclectic and talented actors who are great additions to the series and who will surely do well in helping keep this series afloat.

And as for Sheen and Tennant, let’s see if these two are a match made in heaven…or hell.

The series will launch on Amazon in 2019.
