Is comedienne Iliza Shlesinger‘s Hollywood star ascending? The 2008 winner of NBC‘s “Last Comic Standing” hasn’t exactly left the limelight since that win over ten years ago, but her career has recently begun to heat up. With five comedy specials on Netflix to her name and “The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show” premiering on the service on April Fool’s Day 2020, it’s safe to say that Netflix sees something in the comedian.

Shlesinger’s work with Netflix goes beyond comedy, too. She had a supporting role in the Mark Wahlberg vehicle “Spenser Confidential,” as well as one in “Pieces Of A Woman,” which Netflix picked up the rights to at the Venice Film Festival last September. Outside of Netflix, Shlesinger also had a supporting role in last year’s rom-com “The Right One.” Now, Shlesinger gets to flex her acting chops further, as well as her screenwriting skills, in her next venture with Netflix, “Good On Paper.” Shlesinger stars as a stand-up comic who meets the man of her dreams, but is Mr. Right too good to be true? Here’s the official synopsis:
After years of putting her career ahead of love, stand-up comic Andrea Singer has stumbled upon the perfect guy. On paper, he checks all the boxes but is he everything he appears to be?
Fellow female comic Margaret Cho stars alongside Shlesinger in the film. Alongside them are Rebecca Rittenhouse (“Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood“), Matt McGarry (“How To Get Away With Murder”), and Britney Young (Netflix’s “GLOW“). Tyler Cameron, an ex-“The Bachelorette” contestant-turned-actor, also stars, as does ex-Victoria’s Secret model-turned-actress Taylor Hill (‘The Neon Demon“).
Actress/director Kimmy Gatewood is behind the camera for “Good On Paper.” Gatewood worked with Young on “Glow” and on other Netflix projects like 2017’s “Atypical” and 2020’s “The Babysitters Club.”
Will Iliza Shlesinger’s star turn in “Good On Paper’ further catapult her career with Netflix and beyond? Find out on June 23, when the film hits Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
