Director Ric Roman Waugh is back with the next installment in the newly minted “Greenland” franchise (he was originally tasked to replace Neill Blomkamp on the first movie, after an abrupt exit) as “Greenland 2: Migration” heads to theaters next month and sees Scottish action star Gerard Butler leading a cast alongside Morena Baccarin (“Sheriff County,” “Deadpool”), and Roman Griffin Davis (“Jojo Rabbit”) as trio play The Garrirty Family dealing with the fallout of post-apocalyse setting in the second installment.
Lionsgate has now released a new trailer online for the “Greenland” sequel, and it marks Waugh’s fourth major project with Butler after previously working on the aforementioned “Greenland,” “Angel Has Fallen,” and the 2023 spy action thriller “Kandahar.”

An official synopsis provided by Lionsgate:
In the aftermath of a comet strike that decimated most of the Earth, “Greenland 2: Migration” follows the Garrity family (Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roman Griffin Davis) as they’re forced to leave the safety of their bunker in Greenland to traverse a shattered world in search of a new home.
Waugh, another former stunt performer turned director (his stunting days go back to films such as “Tango & Cash” and “Days of Thunder“), is a busy filmmaker as he also has the Jason Statham action thriller “Shelter” coming to theaters in the United Kingdom next month as well. We don’t see directors releasing two movies within the same month very often.
The trailer for “Greenland 2: Migration” can be viewed below, as the sci-fi action flick will be gracing screens on January 9.
