You can’t stay hidden forever — and apparently neither can Jason Statham. The first trailer for “Shelter” is out now, teeing up a winter-set survival-thriller that drops the action icon onto a remote Scottish island and then promptly rips the quiet away. The film hits UK and Ireland cinemas January 30 via Black Bear UK, positioning itself as lean, cold-weather counterprogramming with a vulnerable kid at the center and a haunted bruiser forced back into the world.

Directed by Ric Roman Waugh and written by Ward Parry, “Shelter” follows a reclusive man living on a remote coastal island who rescues a young girl from a deadly storm. That act of compassion triggers a dangerous chain reaction. Pulled out of isolation, he must confront a turbulent past while protecting her, leading to a tense journey of survival and redemption. Another official summary is even more blunt about the fuse being lit: a recluse rescues a girl from the sea, unleashing a perilous sequence of events that culminates in an attack on his home.
Statham’s character sounds built from the actor’s favorite raw materials — stoic, formidable, and allergic to trouble until trouble kicks the door down. However, the setup also suggests a smaller, more contained pressure cooker than the globe-trotting mayhem he often headlines, funneling the conflict into an exposed home base at the edge of weather and civilization.
The supporting cast includes Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Naomi Ackie, and Bill Nighy, who round out the story’s emotional and moral stakes as the violence intensifies. Between the storm-rescue inciting incident and the promised attack on the recluse’s home, the film appears to be aiming for a grounded, character-driven spin on familiar Statham muscle — a survival tale with an island atmosphere and a protective streak that can only end one way.
“Shelter” opens in UK and Ireland cinemas January 30. Watch the first trailer below.
