If you’re interested in films and who the next big filmmakers are, there are a handful of directors, who released their second films in 2019, that have been knocking projects out of the park. Jordan Peele, Ari Aster, and Robert Eggers have all been two-for-two when you think of the quality of their first two directorial endeavors. The same can be said about Greta Gerwig, though her two films, “Lady Bird” and “Little Women” (both heavily acclaimed and financially successful), are far less horrific than the aforementioned men.
So, after a teen coming-of-age story and a film adaptation of a classic novel, the question on everyone’s mind is what does the future hold for Greta Gerwig? Well, according to a new interview with Variety, the director is working on something completely different — a musical. Though she’s tight-lipped on the details.

“One thing I feel that the world is really missing right now is tap dancing,” she said. “I’m just going to say that.”
With two incredibly solid films under her belt, we’re anxiously awaiting whatever Gerwig has in mind for her third directorial project. And yes, even though a musical sounds like a bit of a departure for Gerwig, there’s really no doubt that she can probably make something just as unique and fun as her first two films. We’ll just have to see if this musical comes before or after her “Barbie” film with co-writer Noah Baumbach.
The only real thing we want to know right now is what roles Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet will have in the film. Clearly, if you’re Gerwig, you don’t want to mess with a casting formula that seems to be working. And is there anyone out there that doesn’t want to see Chalamet tap dance on the big screen? If you listen closely, you can hear the squee from film fans already.
