Guillermo del Toro Praises 'Lady Bird,' 'Coco' & 'Mad Max: Fury Road'

If Guillermo del Toro ever decides to stop making movies (which we hope never happens; even his one year hiatus is kinda killing us), he could have a whole other career just talking and writing about movies. If “The Shape Of Water” isn’t proof enough, del Toro loves cinema, and is always eager to share his discoveries and thoughts with others about the films he feels passionate about. And in a recent Reddit AMA, he did just that.

Asked to name a movie that took him by surprise this year, del Toro shared praise for Greta Gerwig‘s universally adored “Lady Bird:

It was inevitable that someone would ask the Mexico-born director about Pixar‘s “Coco,” and del Toro has no problem saying he loved it, and he hopes it encourages more studios dive into massive storytelling worlds:

Lastly, del Toro couldn’t leave the conversation without talking about “Mad Max: Fury Road” — hardly a surprise given he’ll soon be interviewing George Miller. Naturally, the director believes it’s nothing short of a masterpiece:
