Got a Tip?

Guy Ritchie Teaming With Jason Statham For The Spy Thriller, ‘Five Eyes’

Jason Statham might be one of the biggest action stars in the world right now, most recently squaring off with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the mega-blockbuster “Hobbs & Shaw.” However, years before, he was an unknown that was chosen to star in the film, “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” by filmmaker Guy Ritchie, who then turned the non-actor into a star. Now, decades later, the two are set to reteam yet again for “Five Eyes.”

According to Deadline, Ritchie is set to direct the spy thriller titled “Five Eyes,” with Statham as his star. The film is said to follow the story of an MI6 agent (Statham) that is hired by an international group known as Five Eyes to stop the sale of a weapon of mass destruction. Yep, sounds like some good ol’ Statham fun. Miramax is set to finance and produce “Five Eyes” with STXfilms.

As mentioned, Guy Ritchie is directing the film, which is written by Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies, with the filmmaker offering up his own revisions, as well. Atkinson and Davies previously worked with Ritchie on the story for the filmmaker’s latest feature, “The Gentlemen.” So, you can expect that same sort of frenetic script for “Five Eyes” that the director is known for.

“Jason is a global box office heavyweight, and when teamed with Guy Ritchie, that’s an irresistible combination,” said Adam Fogelson, chairman of the STXfilms Motion Picture Group. “It’s a thrill to be back in business with Guy, Bill and the team at Miramax after our shared success on ‘The Gentlemen’ and we believe ‘Five Eyes’ is the kind of film our partners overseas will love as much as we do.”

A release date is currently unknown for “Five Eyes.” However, production is hoping to get underway in Europe in October. So, it stands to reason that the feature could make its debut sometime in the latter half of 2021.
