Guy Ritchie is reportedly working on a musical starring Jason Statham.
Seriously, are the British rumor mills this desperate? One source apparently reveals that “Guy and Jason are collaborating closely on this top secret musical project. They’re well into development and realise they’re probably going to get a lot of stick.” And if that didn’t sound ridiculous enough, how’s this for a mental image: “[Statham’s] really excited. He’s been watching loads of vintage musicals on DVD. He’s poring over Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers classics. But “West Side Story” has really captured his imagination. He was brought to tears the first time he watched it.”
This actually does sound kind of awesome and Ritchie’s work is already kinetic and balletic, but the reports stem from the U.K. press so buyer always has to beware. Still we’d rather Ritchie do a musical than another derivative crime caper. Enough already. Plus the musical is highly underrated and a comeback would be interesting (Seriously, “West Side Story” rules). [Digital Spy]
