Harrison Ford Calls Chadwick Boseman "As Much A Hero As Any He Played"

Though it’s clear Chadwick Boseman’s legacy will forever be tied to his role as King T’Challa in Marvel’sBlack Panther,” that role might not have come his way if not for his performance in the acclaimed sports biopic, “42.” In that film, Boseman portrays the iconic baseball player Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball decades ago. And considering the actor tragically passed away on the same day as the MLB’s Jackie Robinson Day, many were looking back at his performance in “42” and how it kickstarted an incredible career.

And in the ever-growing number of tributes to Boseman, it appears that the latest is from his “42” co-star Harrison Ford, who knows a little something about portraying some heroes in popular culture. Of course, some could argue that Boseman’s role in “Black Panther” will forever be regarded as more inspirational and culturally relevant than even Ford’s role as Han Solo in “Star Wars.” Regardless of that future debate, Ford took the time out to write a statement about his love of Boseman and why he will be missed.

“Chadwick Boseman was as compelling, powerful and truthful as the characters he chose to play,” Ford said (via THR). “His intelligence, personal dignity and deep commitment inspired his colleagues and elevated the stories he told. He is as much a hero as any he played. He is loved and will be deeply missed.”

Ford’s tribute comes as the entire film industry (and the whole world) mourns the loss of Boseman, who passed away over the weekend after a four-year battle with colon cancer. In addition to Ford’s statement, there’s also a tribute posted by the Jackie Robinson Foundation about Boseman, his performance in “42,” and his legacy as an actor and person.
