Michael Grandage is set to direct the currently untitled film adaptation from a script by Oscar-nominated “Philadelphia” writer Ron Nyswaner. Greg Berlanti, who keeps finding the time to produce every TV and film project on the planet, will produce alongside Robbie Rogers and Sarah Schechter via Berlanti/Schechter Production, as well as Cora Palfrey and Philip Herd via Independent Film Company and Michael Grandage’s MGC banner.

“My Policeman” is set in Brighton, England in the 1950s and follows a schoolteacher named Marion (James) who instantly falls for Harry Styles’ handsome policeman. Things get complicated when Tom meets Patrick, a museum curator who opens his eyes to a new world, and leaves Tom with a difficult decision to make.

Though Tom is drawn to Patrick, it’d be safer for Tom to marry Mation at a time where homosexuality was illegal. Thus, the two lovers are forced to share him, but it doesn’t take long before one of them cracks and all three of their lives are changed forever.

According to Collider, the film will “employ a flashback structure and take place in the late ’90s, when Tom and Marion take an elderly, invalid Patrick into their home, forcing them to revisit those seismic events from 40 years earlier and Tom’s passionate relationship with Patrick, which came at a time when homosexuality was illegal.”

Production for “My Policeman” is slated to start next spring/summer in England.
