It was reported a couple of weeks ago that pop singer Harry Styles was in the running to play Elvis Presley in the upcoming biopic from Baz Luhrmann. However, we learned that wasn’t to be and Styles didn’t land the role. Don’t worry, One Direction fans, it appears that Styles will be just fine, as he’s in talks to star in Disney’s live-action “The Little Mermaid.”
According to THR, Styles is in early negotiations to take the role of Prince Eric in Rob Marshall’s live-action “The Little Mermaid.” For those unfamiliar with the animated classic, “The Little Mermaid” follows the adventures of Ariel, the title character, as she has to decide whether to leave her life under the seas behind to become a human and continue a relationship with Prince Eric. Of course, her wish isn’t exactly what its cracked up to be.
If cast, Styles would join the growing list of actors signed on to star in the film. Led by Halle Bailey, who is the actress signed to play Ariel, the cast also includes Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay, and Awkwafina.
Despite being best known for his musical career, where he has legions of adoring young fans (which will no doubt lead to incredible numbers of tickets sold for “The Little Mermaid), Styles recently had a role in the Christopher Nolan film “Dunkirk.” And as mentioned above, it’s clear that the performer is looking for more and more acting gigs. Hey, landing the love interest role in what is sure to be another Disney billion-dollar grosser isn’t start to a promising acting career, huh?
Production on “The Little Mermaid” is said to begin in early 2020 with an anticipated release sometime in 2021.
